In Recital, Dean Kramer, classical pianist “The Well-Tempered Keyboard”
Part One: Friday, March 12 & Part Two Saturday, March 13
Both recitals begin @ 7pm - Free of Charge.
Presented in conjunction with The Oregon Music Teachers Association.
Dean Kramer will be performing two recitals presenting the complete cycle of preludes and fugues known collectively as “The Well-Tempered Keyboard” by Johann Sebastian Bach. These two piano recitals are the culmination of more than a decade of Kramer’s study, performance, and involvement with this great music by Bach.
Kramer says of the project: “The idea behind this performance of the complete ‘Well-Tempered Keyboard’ is to call into question as many of the older assumptions about playing Bach’s music as possible. I reject categorically the idea we find in textbooks about Bach’s life that Bach wrote ‘The Well-Tempered Keyboard’ for ‘pedagogical’ reasons or to demonstrate the practicality of the well-tempered tuning system. This would be like saying that (Ludwig Van) Beethoven wrote 32 piano sonatas to demonstrate his mastery of sonata form!”
