The Goldsmith/Ringering Duo
First Thursday March 1

With artist Lang Schwartzwald, creating works of art inspired by the music.  Pamela Goldsmith, Guitar; Rhonda Ringering, Piano.

Artist Bios:

Lang Schwartzwald (artist)

Lang Schwartzwald has been painting live music events since 2003 in diverse settings from the large outdoor crowds at the High Sierra Music Festival to silent auctions for non-profit organizations in intimate settings.  He has always been interested in combining art and music together to engage the audience on a visual level while they enjoy the sounds of their favorite music. His goal of representing the mood and feel of the music within his art is always a fun and exciting endeavor.

Pamela Goldsmith, Guitar; Rhonda Ringering, Piano

The Goldsmith/Ringering Duo is comprised of guitarist Pamela Goldsmith and pianist Rhonda Ringering. They perform a mixture of classical and new music and have appeared together on the Umpqua Community College Concert Series, Linfield College, The Old Church, Water Music Festival’s “Poulshock” Weekend, Montinore Estate Vineyards, and more.

Their first joint recording, A Spin On It, Features compositions by Oregon composers Dave Deason, Jason Heald and Dana Libonati, as well as New York composer Joel Pierson. It is music that evokes contemplation and reminiscence and is the perfect companion to a rainy afternoon and a glass of fine wine.  It is released on No Dead Guys—a small, independent record label dedicated to promoting intelligent contemporary music with a tune and a beat.

The Goldsmith/Ringering Duo is dedicated to bringing great music to everyone and to “unstuffing” classical music.

Piano Master Class with Kirill Gerstein
Saturday, March 17 at 4pm.

Portland Piano International presents a Piano Master Class with Kirill Gerstein.

"On the fast track to a major career, and he deserves to be." - Boston Globe

At age 16 and studying jazz piano at the Berklee College of Music, Kirill Gerstein rebelled ... by turning to classical music! That independent spirit and musical curiosity are part of the virtuosity the Gilmore committee recognized when it awarded him the 2010 Gilmore Artist Award, given once every four years to "a superb pianist and a profound musician" with charisma and broad musicianship.

While in Portland, Mr. Gerstein will also teach a Master Class, giving us a further opportunity to hear how roots in jazz can inform a major classical artist's music.
